Shop Size - I made my neopoints by upgrading whenever I could afford it. I found that you get more customers through the marketplace no matter what your prices if you have a large shop.
What to Sell? - Sell what people need. Simple. I suggest you specialise in a certain type of item, say, food or toys, clothes, weapons. Whatever you like. But make sure you have all the books, or all the toys or a variety of food. That way, when people buy from your shop, it is more likely they will return when they need food, or weapons or whatever it is you're selling.
Don't rip yourself off on Rare's - A lot of people cut the price of the shop wizard by thousands of Neopoints. That's silly. If you have put in the effort to get hold of a rare item, sell it for what its worth!!
Don't rip yourself off part 2 - I have seen items that cost hundreds of Neopoints in the main shops selling for 50np or under in peoples shops. NEVER sell items for less than they cost you...your neopets need food too!!
Read the 'NEWS' and Neopian Times - Part of selling what people need is guessing what will sell for high prices next. Items change value every day, sometimes things that are selling for 50np in peoples shops sell for 1900np or more the next days. Reasons like, sudden rarity, an event that requires this item (medicine coz of the money tree illness or the wheel for example) Or the item being requested for quests can make the value change overnight. READ PEOPLE!! If you know whats going on, you can get ahead by stocking up at the right time!!!
Buy when things are CHEAP - If something is normally expensive and you see it everywhere cheap, stock up and save them!! Over Xmas a lot of golden juppies were given out. So you could buy them everywhere dirt cheap!!! In the main shop they are very expensive and as the supply runs out of cheap ones, the price is rising and everyone who stocked up is making a HUGE profit!! Same goes for Turkey Dinners.....I bought heaps for 20np coz everyone got 2 over Xmas. Now they are high priced again, coz if there is one in the main food shop at restock, THERE IS ONLY ONE!! RARE AGAIN
Don't Overdress your shop - I have a pretty good computer, but some shops freeze my computer screen coz they have put too many graphics or animated backgrounds in their shop. Make your shop look nice, but don't use animated backgrounds, most computers can't handle them. Use backgrounds like mine or the ones from planetneopia.com.
Give money to the money tree - I do regularly. I believe that it brings you good luck. If you have items that won't sell, give one or two to the money tree now and then. I bet you find a few extra random events coming your way.
Check your prices - I've been caught out on this one. Grundo stix were worth 40000np at the time and I was given some by the kitchen. I sold them for 2000np in two seconds, I didn't check their value before pricing them!!! Sell around the average price in the shop wizard. You work hard for your money, as I said, don't rip yourself off.
Pricing - Don't complain to me or anyone else about their prices. You and everyone else has the right to charge whatever they think is fair for their items. My prices are high coz I have a shop sized 432 plus five other shops of smaller size. I don't have time to restock, as it is, I sell 100 items a day at least. Plus I do WebPages like this one. So when I do restock, I buy from smaller shops, to help them along in neopets also. Sometimes, they are cheaper than the main shops anyway (mad!)
Chat - Go in and check out the help and quest sections of chat. Its yet another good way of finding out whats going on in the place. You can easily find out what people need and what to sell by checking out the chat boards.
Get your shop noticed - Things you can get cheap, sold cheap will draw people to your shop. Advertising sales in chat will also draw customers. People need things and often don't know where to look to find them, so offer your shop address at every possible opportunity :o)
Put lipstick prices up and BUY lipstick for 15np - Have you noticed the price of lipstick has gone through the roof in the main shop? So, eventually when supplies run out, people will have to pay 50np + for it in the main shop and sell it for more....buy lipstick from peoples shops for 10np WHILE YOU CAN!!
UPGRADE, UPGRADE, UPGRADE - I can't suggest it enough, its really how i make my money....when you have a large shop, you automatically get more visitors...it really works!!
Don't undersell the freebies!! - Neopets gives away a lot of items free from games or on offer etc, battlecards, tombola coins, omelettes, some of them aren't worth a lot of money, but some of them ARE! You need to see on the wizard whether your sort of item is worth money..
Pricing things CHEAPEST on the Wiz isn't always smart - If you do use the shop wizard to check out item prices, never sell cheaper than the top price. There are a lot of silly people out there who sell things for less than they are worth just to be at the top of the Wiz! All they do is RIP THEMSELVES OFF!! You can do better. Price your item a little above the cheapest price, its better to be average than cheat yourself out of money.
Keep an eye on things - Items that aren't worth money one day, are worth a fortune the next! If you know what general items the kitchen or other quests ask for often, these things usually sell for 1500np+. What i do, is price those items at 1500np to start with....they don't sell till they are needed for quests, but it sure beats getting 99np for them at other times!!
